Lawyers have told us when and why to be offended. That is why I detest so many Lawyers.
My presentations are created and delivered for real people in the real world.
If you want to know what is really happening in the world and the dangers EMS providers face, and you want to know how to protect yourself from them…then these programs could save your life.

In this very fast-paced session, we examine classic documentation blunders and their potentially devastating consequences. We look at “what” to document and “why,” and you will see that “how” to document is entirely up to you. In a little more than an hour, paramedic turned defense attorney, David Givot, will open your eyes to an easier, smarter, and safer way to document Prehospital care..
We examine classic documentation blunders and their potentially devastating consequences. We look at “what” to document and “why,” and you will see that “how” to document is entirely up to you. Throughout this entertaining program, paramedic turned defense attorney, David Givot, will open your eyes to an easier, smarter, and safer way to document Prehospital care. Plus we will also take a comprehensive look at the law and how certain aspects, like negligence, are interpreted into patient care records, from run reports to billing sheets to ER charts.
Social Media outlets like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube have made a big world very, very small. For EMS providers, that world is even smaller. Unfortunately, social media has grown much faster than EMS’ ability to manage it. Photographs, videos, and all types of commentary have opened a Pandora’s Box of legal and ethical problems. In this important session, we look closely at social media and its broad-reaching impact of EMS. We will gather ideas for how to manage and make great use of these new and valuable tools.
There is a big difference between what we see and what we “think” we see. For EMS providers, that difference can be career-ending. In this fun and enlightening session, you will learn to look at the world through two different lenses: the one that is real and the one that looks real. We will share real-life examples of how “context” – or the lack thereof – makes all the difference in the world and how you can protect yourself from the dangers of misperception.
There are only three types of providers: the natural, the striver, and the slacker. This tough, but very necessary, program takes an in-depth look at each of these provider types and challenges participants to identify the one that best describes them. This program combines law, ethics, and self-reflection. Using the laws of EMS as a guide, we will discuss those differences in contrast with the ethics of EMS and how recognizing them is a call to action to improve the delivery of EMS across the nation, one provider at a time.
PROGRAMS A LA CARTE
In addition to the established favorites and new offerings, programs can be created for specific audiences, based on the needs of agencies or conference organizers.
Whatever the topics, providers will have a new or renewed understanding of who they are and what they stand for.
More importantly, they will have a solid foundation upon which to build improved patient care, improved morale, improved, community relations… and most of all, greater protection against liability for themselves and the agency for which they work.
I will travel to your site, ride day and night with your crews, supervisors, and officers to gather a first-hand understanding of the issues and exposures confronting your providers and your agency; I will talk one-on-one with any willing member of the workforce; I will answer questions, provide education, and offer techniques for minimizing legal exposure as well as providing the best possible “People” Care.
I will craft a training program based on what I find and deliver it to your providers.
You will find that my rates are very reasonable and expenses are minimal. And there is no limit to the number of weeks for which I can be hired.
This is not legal advice, this is education and training on issues that, if left unchecked, can lead to costly settlements or devastating litigation.
Since becoming a Paramedic in 1989 and after becoming an Attorney, I have discovered a vast disparity between the Law that is generally taught in EMT or Paramedic school and the actual legal risks and liabilities EMS Professionals face from day to day. The world has become a very dangerous place for EMS providers and I hope to be the bulletproof vest.
In response, I have created a comprehensive and interactive series of lectures for experienced and future EMS Professionals that address the “New Legal Reality” that frontline field providers face on a daily basis.
Historically, training programs call on a field provider with little or no legal experience or an attorney with no EMS experience to teach legal issues to an audience unready to receive it. The forced and typically unenthusiastic presentation leads to boredom and very little retained learning.
My programs, on the other hand, draw from my own extensive Paramedic & EMS Management experience and intensive Legal Education to help providers understand their actual exposures as well as to provide tools and techniques for mitigating them – in a language they understand and using terms & examples to which they can easily relate.
The presentations are lively and engaging and invite (but does not require) audience participation.
As one participant put it:
“…it’s better coming from one of our own…”
In my programs, participants learn to recognize how EMS provider responsibilities stretch far beyond showing up for work and providing quality patient care. My programs instill the concept and value of Quality People Care.
